The Maine Bicentennial: A Party 200 Years In The Making
Happy birthday Maine. You don’t look a day over 200. And that’s saying a lot when you’re celebrating your bicentennial.
Yep. The state fondly known as “vacationland” is celebrating the big one this year. Which means from Ogunquit to Bangor, the party’s on. If you’ve ever been looking for the right time to check out what Maine is all about, then 2020 might be your year. We’re talking lots and lots of Bicentennial events to mark this auspicious occasion. Think of it as a yearlong 4th of July celebration … with and without the bands and fireworks.
Here on the coast of southern Maine, we want to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the action. Or the experiences that have helped our state live up to its nickname (see above). So keeping in the spirit of things, The Maine Beaches Association has created the Maine Beaches 200 in 200 Challenge. Suffice it to say that it’s a great way to have some fun putting together that special visit while building your own “must-do” collection of unique Maine experiences. Simply use our new digital itinerary planning tool and app to select from our list of things to do and add them to your trip planner. Then, while you’re here, share pictures of your experiences on Facebook or Instagram to be entered to win some very cool 200 in 200 memorabilia. Just tag your photos with @TheMaineBeaches and the hashtag #200in200Maine.
Peaked your interest? Well there’s more. In addition to the actual Challenge, the Association has crafted a beautiful Maine Beaches 200 in 200 Challenge commemorative coin that can be purchased for $10 at TheMaineBeaches.com. Present the coin at any participating local business to unlock exclusive deals, discounts, and gifts.* Like our very own 200th Maine T-Shirt with The Dunes logo on it. Can’t beat that.
So take a deep breath and get ready to help us blow out all those candles. It’s time to party. After all, you only turn 200 once.
