We definitely know how to do fall around here. And one of the ways we do it is with some special Autumn celebrations that not only usher in the season, they also provide the perfect anecdote for those end-of-summer blues. Take a quick look at these can’t miss fall festivals in and around Ogunquit.
Capriccio Music Festival
September 6, 7 and 13
Ah. The sweet sounds of Autumn. There’s no better way to roll into the season than to the strains of the 29th annual Capriccio Music Festival. The Festival spotlights national and regional music artists as well as the legendary Festival of Kites. This year’s event kicks off on September 6th with Grammy-Award winning jazz pianist Paul Sullivan. The following morning turn your eyes overhead for one of Maine’s most colorful fall experiences. It’s the legendary Capriccio Festival of Kites. This high-flying spectacle will definitely have your spirits soaring.
Just north of us you’ll discover Kennebunk and its annual HarvestFest. This is when downtown is transformed into a mecca for Halloween fun and all things fall. Lots of stuff for the whole family. Stroll along with your fellow ghosts and goblins in the hair-raising Halloween parade down Main Street. And don’t miss the huge great pumpkin. It’s so large they have to bring in a professional carver to handle the decorating chores.
Harvest on the Harbor
Are you a true-blue foodie? Then head on up to Portland for this celebration of food, beer, wine and spirits. The festival is a showcase for many of the region’s top chefs who descend on the city for three days of food, frolic and fun. Sample a smorgasbord of food and drink offerings to satisfy even the most discriminating appetite. While you’re there, why not check out the town’s bustling restaurant scene too?
York Harvestfest and Kidfest
A short trip down the road from Ogunquit, the 35th York Harvestfest and Kidsfest is the ideal way to show you and the kids what fall is really about. Lots of food, a craft fair and a healthy dose of Halloween. Special props to the storytelling of Dr. Gasp, Mad Science of Maine’s Spooktacular Halloween Show and as an added bonus, the first annual Chili Chocolate Chowderfest on the 20th.
